Take Action! Make sure your views on this important issue are heard by the Board of Commissioners, by letting them know the importance of using trail cameras and other devices for conservation management practices.
The Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners will discuss restrictions to the use of trail cameras at its upcoming meeting on March 24 and 25. The proposed regulation would ban the use of trail cameras for big game hunting between August 1 and December 31 on state wildlife management areas and units.
In addition, trail cameras would be prohibited year-round within 200 feet of a spring, waterhole or other water source for any reason. This includes hunting or scouting for small or big game, wildlife watching and trespass prevention – it even applies to private property.
“Trail cameras have become a helpful tool for hunters across Nevada and the country,” said Luke Houghton, Sportsmen’s Alliance associate director of state services. “There must be a way to address any issues that have occurred without such as heavy handed approach as an all-out ban.”
The commission is hosting a public workshop during the meeting on March 25 to take public input on the issue. A final vote on the restrictions is expected in May.
“It’s important for sportsmen and women to make their views known before the commission takes action on such a major restriction,” said Houghton.
Sportsmen and women are encouraged to attend the workshop to provide public comments on March 25 beginning at 8 a.m. The workshop will take place at the Lyon County Administrative Complex located at 27 S. Main Street, in Yerington, Nevada 89447.
