On Sept. 10, the House Game and Fisheries Committee will hear legislation that would open three Sundays to hunting. The committee will meet at 1 p.m. in Room 60 in the East Wing of the Pennsylvania State Capitol to take testimony on Senate Bill 147.

SB 147, which was approved by the Senate on June 26 by a vote of 36-14, is a good first step toward ending the unnecessary and archaic prohibition on Sunday hunting in the Commonwealth.

CALL NOW! Pennsylvania hunters need to contact their State Representative and to ask them to vote yes on Senate Bill 147, which will allow Sunday hunting. Sportsmen can contact their state representatives by using the Sportsmen’s Alliance Action Center Directory.

In an effort to placate the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Senators increased penalties for trespass violations and pared down Senate Bill 147 to opening hunting on just three Sundays:

  • One during deer gun season.
  • One during deer archery season.
  • A third Sunday determined by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

“The facts 100-percent support opening hunting on Sundays in Pennsylvania,” said Bruce Tague vice president of government affairs for the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “We know it’s good for jobs and the economy. We know that lack of time to hunt is the top challenge cited by Pennsylvania hunters, and we know Sunday hunting works well in every neighboring state and across the country. Senate Bill 147 is a small step toward righting this wrong in Pennsylvania and it’s time for the Pennsylvania House to treat sportsmen fairly and not to reward obstructionism.”

Pennsylvania hunters are encouraged to attend the hearing on Sept. 10. A room packed with sportsmen will send a strong message to members of the House Game and Fisheries Committee.
